Brenden Queen Wins Season Finale at Las Vegas; Earns First Ever CorvetteParts.net Super Late Model C
Las Vegas, NV - Believe it or not a late race restart helped propel Brenden Queen back into the lead and en route to his seventh win on the ten race tour schedule. Queen would have to muscle his way back around teammate Colby Vance – who started the race on the pole laying down a lap of 13.992 seconds - to pick up the victory with just three laps to go on the final restart of the evening. Queen took the green flag in the third position behind Austin Davis and in front of Travis Wall and Shawn Pierce.
Vance would lead the first four circuits before being overtaken by the No. 03 machine and checking out once again from the rest of the field. The race was only slowed by a total of three cautions which allowed both Queen and Vance to put a huge gap on the field and put on one heck of a show exchanging the lead spot five different times. Though the two were battling hard for position the pace that was set was unmatched by anyone on the speedway. So much so that at one point in the longest green flag run the pair had lapped up to sixth place.
The first caution of the night did not come till well after the halfway point of the feature after a few cars in the back lost control of their cars on the worn out tires. Two more quick cautions in the closing laps followed which allowed three drivers to get back on the lead lap. However, the caution would fly for the third and final time on lap 122 when Justin Kern got into the back of teammate Steven Burnett and ultimately sent him into the outside wall in turn two. This would also be the final nail in the coffin of hope for Vance who also lost control of his car racing for the lead before the yellow was displayed which not only cost him the race win but a podium finish. Travis Wall, Austin Davis, and Tim Knott would all get around Vance in the closing laps to take positions two through four.
“This feels great to seal the championship off with the win,” Brenden said in victory lane. “I didnt really want to win it like I did but it was a heck of a race between Colby and I, it had to be the most exciting one of the year. He had the car to beat tonight for sure I was just trying to not let him get away but on the last lap we just kinda met in the corner and we got together. All in all it was a great showing for both team cars and I cant think the lord enough to bring home the championship. I just have to thank everyone that was involved in making this happen with CorvetteParts.net and KeenParts.com sponsoring the show and PBR for broadcasting."
When all was said an done Brenden Queen was crowned the 2018 CorvetteParts.net Super Late Model Tour Champion earning seven wins, ten top five and ten top ten finishes. With an average finish of 1.30, Queen was able to keep Steven Burnett (1 win, 7 Top-5, 9 Top-10) more than twenty points back to finish second. Colby Vance earned third place in points with his 1 win, 7-Top5’s, and 9 Top-10 finishes. Tim Knott and Justin Kern would round out the top five in points.
“Overall I think this was a great touring series,” Burnett said to the media following the trophy presentation. “Of course with all new adventures we had some hiccups but I think as a managing and driver group we worked through those issues pretty well. We had some great car counts throughout the season and was able to broadcast these races so all of our family and friends could keep up over the off season. All of this couldn’t be possible though without all of the help from the folks at Corvette Parts and Keen Parts. They are such a great group to partner with and have a deep love for racing which is just awesome."
