Braselton, GA - Race number two of the Corvette Parts.net Super Late Model Series is now in the books and Brenden Queen, 19 of Chesapeake, VA, has started to take up permanent residency in victory lane. Proving that the fastest car is not always the winner.
Connor Hall, the 20-year-old from Hampton, Virginia, and fellow Late Model Stock Car driver in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, earned the that right posting the quickest time in practice, qualifying, and the race. Hall’s 12.719-second (106.14 mph) was enough to earn him his seasons first pole award. Queen clocked in a time just a couple thousandths of a second off to start to his outside.
Tire management and cat like reflexes were the keys to success for the eighteen cars once the green flag was displayed. Hall would lead just three laps before ultimately surrendering the lead to Queen as he went into tire conservation mode. With 125-laps on the books and no tires up for grabs, the top ten drivers settled in line and started logging laps. Tenth on back had other plans, however, as they fought and clawed their way to the front. Much like any short track even there was plenty of door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper racing. So much so the race was slowed twelve times for a total of fifty-six lap.
Brenden Queen, however, was was all but flawless on each restart holding off teammate Colby Vance and taking back control of the lead each time. As the race drew to a close Hall, who at one point during the race had fallen all the way back to tenth, started to turn the wick up and work his way back to the front. A little bit of bad luck seemed to follow Hall from Florida to Georgia as contact with a lap car ultimately ruined Hall’s shot at the lead leaving any and all hope for a new winner up to Colby Vance.
A late race caution involving Steven Burnett and Vance would bring out the twelfth and final caution of the evening as well as help shake up the final running order. Hall, Pierce, Kern, and Kenny were all able to find their way through the wreckage going into turn one, all improving their final finishing position.
The CorvetteParts.net Super Late Model series will take the next two weeks off as our drivers, crews, fans, and partners take some time to spend the holidays with their families. Racing will continue January 8th, 2018 LIVE on Parks Brothers Racing via YouTube for The Weekly Racer.com Winter Classic 125 at Southern National Motorsports park. Make sure to tune in to see if anyone can dethrone Queen.
